Newest addition to the shelf

Here is my latest addition to the bookshelf. I had heard great things about it as an addition to the info on reactive dog handling given by Patricia McConnell. (who's seminar I recently attended) I am a firm believer in the more you know, the better equipped you are to help. Plus knowing as much about getting and keeping a dogs focus is always a good thing for training. I'll be sure to let you know how it is.

Here is my latest video acquisition:

I picked this up at the Patricia McConnell seminar. It was designed to be a companion to the book of the same name co-authored by Karen London. (filmed in 2005) I thought it stands just fine by itself. I'm sure for those that read just the book it will be helpful to see the exercises being performed. (I admit that I have not yet read that book.)

*I think it had alot of useful and easy to execute exercises. She also broke them down and showed how to teach each one. The first step being to teach each dog individually. The video includes how to teach:

*Putting dogs away (getting them comfortable being alone)

A group stay

A group wait

A group off (think leave it)

Teaching Manners

Belle of the ball (how to deal with dogs that don't want you fussing over another dog in the group)

and Teaching enough (or I'm really done petting/interacting with you now.)

*I found all of the directions very clear and easy to understand. It is hard for me to watch some videos because of the repeat of info I sometimes get and trying to view it as the average dog owner will. I think this one is a great DVD to recommend to clients and friends with multiple dogs in the home. I know I picked up a couple of tips to start implementing with my own crew.

To order check it out here: http://www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?ID=DTB833 Dogwise is one of my favorite places to find great dog training books and videos.

I am still reading Pet Food Politics. The reason I haven't finished it yet is that I am only reading it on my lunch breaks when I don't come home to eat. Admittedly that isn't very often. So I am only getting small amounts at a time. I am finding it a very interesting read though it freaks me out abit about our own food supply. The things companies are allowed to do to food is mind boggling. It is also quite the eye opener about the pet food recall AND how there really is alot of info on food that isn't on the internet. (old studies and the like which turned out to be part of the problem) I can say for anyone interested in the subject it is a very educational read.

New blog intro

In a conversation about the books we own started at the Underdogged blog I decided to start this blog about my own dog book library. This also helps clear up some of the clutter I had on my other site as well. Not everyone cares about the books I own after all. (shocking I know) But for those interested I will list my full dog library here and will post book reviews as I read any new additions. Perhaps I will also go back through and give opinions on others I already have. Hopefully this will help me get back into the swing of reading regularly instead of just buying them to sit on the shelf. This is one case where being a user is preferable to just being an addicted buyer.

My most current bookself aquisition is the following:

So far I am finding it very interesting and much less dry than I expected it to be. We shall see how it pans out in the long run. Read on!
